System Authorization Access Request (SAAR) Overview
The automated SAAR process replaces manual, paper-based DD Form 2875 workflows with a secure digital process for DAF application access.
What is the new SAAR process?
The automated SAAR process is a digital workflow within the DAF ICAM platform that replaces the manual, paper-based DD Form 2875. It helps personnel gain faster mission-system access through automated workflows, digital approvals, and streamlined provisioning, without manually passing PDF or paper forms around for signatures.
With this process, you no longer need to store DD Form 2875s. SailPoint, through DAF ICAM's Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) capabilities, serves as the official system for storage, auditing, and record-keeping.

Benefits of the automated SAAR process
The new automated SAAR process offers a number of benefits over the old paper-based system:
| Benefit | Description |
|---|---|
| Faster, more efficient access provisioning | Automation generates SAAR forms, routes them for electronic approvals, and streamlines provisioning. |
| Enhanced compliance and auditability | A complete audit trail records who requested access, who approved it, and when access was granted, reducing the risk of compliance violations. |
| Stronger security controls | The process enforces least privilege, supports Separation of Duties (SoD), and reduces the risk of orphaned accounts. |
| Improved user experience | A simplified, user-friendly interface with pre-populated forms makes access requests faster and easier. |
| Policy enforcement and continuous governance | Centralized access policies and continuous monitoring help keep access rights appropriate over time. |
| Reduced administrative burden | Automation reduces manual paperwork and data entry, allowing IT and security staff to focus on higher-value tasks. |
| Supports Zero Trust and continuous authorization | The process supports dynamic, automated access decisions based on user attributes, security posture, and real-time risk signals. |
The user access lifecycle
An approved SAAR is part of ongoing access governance, not a permanent grant. Review IGA lifecycle management for joiner, mover and leaver access changes.
How to request access: a step-by-step guide
The new automated SAAR process is designed to be simple and intuitive. The SAAR Process Guide provides a high-level guide to requesting access to DAF applications through the IGA solution.
